Sales Territory Manager – Southeast, RTP

We enable our customers across a wide array of discipline – from life sciences research to improving patient diagnostics, from solving complex analytical challenges to increasing laboratory productivity.  This position is located in the RTP area in North Carolina.

The position is ideal for a self-motivated individual with broad scientific background and experience as a sales manager within the life sciences.  Ideal candidates will have a consultative selling background and significant experience calling on hospitals, pharmaceuticals and biotech within the defined region.  The successful candidate needs to be highly energetic and driven with a proven record of exceeding their targets.

Essential Responsibilities:

The employee may be required to perform all or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.
  • Lead the market development sales activities in assigned geography
  • Develop a pipeline to meet or exceed Territory revenue objectives
  • Schedule and perform product demonstrations
  • Manage and grow accounts including industrial, research facilities, hospitals and universities
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers to meet and exceed revenue objectives
  • Actively manage and grow your opportunities and contacts list within CRM
  • Develop new business, grow existing business, and troubleshooting customer problems
  • Perform product installations and provide user training
  • Use your consultative selling skills to overcome and manage objections, and negotiate to obtain sales
  • Network and interface with internal colleagues to share information and best practices
  • Liaise between in-house R&D and key customers to develop applications and market opportunities
  • Contribute to overall company growth by attending national or international conferences and exhibitions

In addition to the essential responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other non-essential functions.  Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job-related duties requested by their supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in the Life Sciences
  • Seasoned sales professional with two to five years capital scientific equipment sales experience
  • Experience with selling into hospitals, pharmaceutical and biotech with a focus on NGS and Oncology markets will be beneficial
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and implementation skills; proven analytical skills with ability to translate data into actionable plans
  • In-depth knowledge of molecular biology and proteomics experience a plus
  • Experience performing product demonstrations, product installation and training
  • Critical thinking skills, excellent communication, and interpersonal skills are necessary, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and timelines
  • Up to 50% travel

Desired Skills and Background:

  • General understanding of design principals and fabrication processes (from sheet metal fabrication to injection molding)
  • Risk Management – Ability to identify technical risks & develop effective mitigations
  • Understanding of electrical, software, firmware development, and systems engineering
  • Familiar w/ structured problem-solving methods, such as A3, Fishbone, Six-Step, etc.
  • Experience designing plastic components with fundamental understanding of plastic part fabrication processes (including injection molding, rotational molding, vacuum forming, etc.)
  • Experience using commercial 3D printers
  • Understanding of different fabrications processes and ASME standards for machined and sheet metal assemblies
  • Exposure to biotechnology/bioengineering – familiarity with common instrumentation (NGS, PCR, Rt-PCR, common DNA sequencers, etc.), workflows (end-to-end for genomics, DNA sequencing, proteomics, epigenomics, etc.), and processes (including sample prep and purification, enzymatic fragmentation, lysing, etc.) is a plus
