Watch On-Demand: Fingerstick-Based DNA Collection Using truCOLLECT® Solution for Whole Genome Sequencing in Pediatric and Neurogenetic Research
This webinar presents findings from a pilot study evaluating truCOLLECT fingerstick blood collection as an alternative to traditional venous draws for genomic DNA extraction and whole genome sequencing (WGS) in pediatric populations. Collecting high-quality DNA remains a challenge in children—particularly those with autism spectrum disorder and other neurodevelopmental conditions—where venipuncture can be distressing and access to phlebotomy services may be limited.
In this study, pediatric participants provided paired samples via venipuncture and fingerstick collection. DNA extracted from truCOLLECT samples demonstrated strong yield, integrity, and stability at room temperature, with no evidence of degradation. Importantly, truCOLLECT-derived DNA performed comparably to venous blood in downstream sequencing applications, including long-read WGS.
Beyond performance, the truCOLLECT solution offers practical advantages such as minimally invasive collection, compatibility with self-collection, and non-hazardous shipping. These features enable broader access to genomic studies and support more inclusive research designs across pediatric, rural, and community-based settings.
