Summary:
The Field Applications Scientist – Automation will be responsible for developing and delivering Covaris sample prep solutions to streamline and automate customers high-throughput workflows. Working closely with Sales and Business Development, the candidate will help identify and deliver long term workflow solutions for customers, deliver protocols, application notes, publications, and other marketing collaterals. This position is a member of the Sales Team and will also collaborate with Marketing, R&D and Engineering.
We are looking for motivated individual who is curious and inquisitive, with an ability to understand and present complex workflows in a simplified manor to customers, as well as across departments within Covaris.
This interdisciplinary, multi-faceted position offers an exciting opportunity to support, shape, and promote our successful, innovative sample prep solutions using our proprietary AFA® technology. The position offers a prominent level of interactivity and responsibility in a growing company, and the opportunity to work as part of a strong international team.
This position is ideal for an individual with liquid-handler automation expertise, NGS workflow experience, along with strong presentation and communication skills both internally and customer facing.
Essential Responsibilities:
The employee may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.
  • Technical point of reference for Covaris automation pre-/post-sales customer communications activities and customer training, with an ability to leverage these interactions for marketing collateral.
  • Familiar with widely used NGS technology platforms including Illumina, Oxford Nanopore, PacBio, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in automating NGS library preparation workflows
  • Familiar with FFPE (Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded) flash-frozen tissues, DBS and cell lines.
  • Be the point of contact for voice-of-customer (VOC) and product requirements, with a focus on both applications and Covaris next-gen AFA-TUBE consumables.
  • Lead identification and evaluation of modern technologies or instrumentation (i.e., Duplex-Seq, Methyl-Seq, NovaSeq) related to bioanalytical research and identify technical challenges and business development opportunities for Covaris.
  • Provide technical support, expertise, and insight into customer needs.
  • Assist Sales and Business Development by being the technical liaison in the pre-sales assessment of new applications for Covaris’ AFA® (Adaptive Focused Acoustics) technology.
  • Maintain records of customer contacts and support in Salesforce-CRM (Customer Relationship Management).
  • Build, categorize, and maintain a library of frequently asked questions pertaining to all Company instruments and supported applications.
  • Maintain and update protocols, presentation and the library of high-throughput and automation publications pertaining to the use of Covaris technology.
  • Learn and be able to troubleshoot Covaris instruments for basic mechanical operation and software issues (SonoLab).
  • Work in the R&D/Applications lab both independently and with colleagues to generate applications and technical notes.
  • Represent Covaris at tradeshow or seminar events, local and/or national, including demonstrations.
  • Work with the global sales team and support the sales team with presentations, demonstrations, and communications.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Required formal education:  Biology, Genetics, Analytical Sciences, Biochemistry, or related fields (PhD preferred)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in automation and NGS
  • Critical thinking skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be necessary, as well as the ability to prioritize tasks and timelines.
  • Understanding of applied statistics and familiarity with design of experiments.
  • Microsoft Office skills. MATLAB or Python previous experience would be considered a plus.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly motivated.
  • Oral presentation skills.
Other:
The position is remote however California proximity is preferred.
Travel: up to 25%, primarily USA
