Field Application Scientist – Europe

Covaris continues to innovate pre-analytical sample preparation technologies to accelerate the pace of research and drug discovery with its proprietary and patented Adaptive Focused Acoustics® (AFA®) technology, which in turn, enables very high-throughput pre-analytical processes and extensively used across a wide array of applications in Genomics, Proteomics, Epigenomics, Cell Biology, Drug Discovery, and Formulation.
Covaris is seeking a customer focused Pre-/Post-Sales Field Applications Scientist (FAS) to provide technical expertise and educational training for our workflow solutions. The individual will also assist in managing Covaris scientific collaborations to develop new workflows and protocols, as well as publishing them as application notes, peer reviewed publications or posters/talks on international conferences. This position is a member of Covaris European operations.  It will require working closely with global Sales, Marketing, Applications and R&D department, and directly with customers.
This interdisciplinary, multi-faceted position is ideal for a self-motivated individual with broad scientific knowledge and offers an exciting opportunity to support, shape, and promote our successful, innovative sample preparation solutions using our proprietary AFA technology. The position offers a prominent level of interactivity and responsibility in a growing company, and the opportunity to work as part of a strong international team.
The role is field based covering Europe, primarily supporting Benelux, German and French markets.
The position is home based in Europe (France, or Germany).
Access to public transport (airport, train station) is essential.
Essential Responsibilities:
The employee may be required to perform all, or a combination of the following essential responsibilities as determined by business necessity.
  • Present scientific/technical presentations on behalf of Covaris at conferences or exhibitions.
  • Partner with sales and serve as the scientific/technical expert to help drive sales and provide support for new and existing customers.
  • Organize and execute demonstrations of Covaris applications and products; manage these projects independently to ensure all demonstration equipment is fully functional and optimized.
  • Respond to customer applications questions via telephone or email and ensure customer support needs are achieved in a timely manner and appropriately documented.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating a library of publications pertaining to the use of the Company’s technology.
  • Assist in the assessment of new applications for the Company’s AFA technology; provide technical expertise and insight for customer needs.
Non-Essential Responsibilities:
In addition to the essential responsibilities listed above, the employee may be required to perform other non-essential functions.  Employees are required to follow any other job-related instructions and to perform any other job related duties requested by their supervisor.
  • PhD. in molecular biology, biochemistry, or similarly relevant field. Alternatively, a MSc with at least 5 years lab experience in relevant areas
  • Familiar with techniques related to biomolecule extraction from FFPE (Formalin Fixed Paraffin Embedded) tissues, DBS (dry blood spots), tissues, and cell lines.
  • Knowledgeable in widely used NGS technology platforms and experience with proteomics is advantageous.
  • Knowledgeable in automating NGS library preparation workflows is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, confident presenter
  • Expertise in technical writing, fully fluent in English
  • Ability to speak another European language (German, French) is an advantage
  • Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Competency in using Microsoft Office 365
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce)
  • Must be detail oriented and highly motivated
  • Critical thinking skills, highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and timelines
  • Availability to travel up to 50% of working time in the field
